Meet Todd Werner

Todd Charles Werner (born on August 5, 1962) - is an inventor, serial entrepreneur, boat racer, real estate investor, and car collector. He is the creator of the mail service system - FlowMaster, majority owner of Pro Marine, ex-president of Sure-Feed Engineering Inc, president of Pro Toyz, and was a co-owner of Statement Marine.

Personal life

Werner was born in Ohio and lived his early life in North Royalton a suburb of Cleveland. He is a graduate of Northeast High School in St. Petersburg with an associate's degree from a technology training school. He is the younger child and has an older sibling - Trent Werner. Werner’s father, Ralph Werner owned a carpet installation business. Dolores Werner, Todd's mother, was a secretary and also did the accounting for the family business.  Todd has three sons from the first marriage: Tyler, Brandon, and Ryan.

About Childhood

In North Royalton, he would ride minibikes on the trails near his home with his family.  The family would go on camping trips in Ohio and Florida. This included fishing trips to Sandusky in Ohio, tubing on the Rainbow River, and Canoeing down the Peace River.  A lot of his early life was spent around boats and water. As a child, Todd was always fascinated by how things worked.  He would take things apart just to see how they worked.  Over time, he learned that he also needed to put things back together to stay out of trouble.  Radios, toasters, etc., Todd would disassemble them and put them back together. Todd learned that if he wanted something, the easiest way to get it was to build it.  He would build his own skateboards.  Later he learned how to work on bicycles, then cars.  At one point, he bought three non-working cars from a junkyard.  He took those three cars and built one fully functional vehicle from them.

Todd's first car was an important achievement of his early life. It was Ford Capri, 1973! You can see the picture of it below.

Sure - Feed Systems

Werner opened a company called Sure-Feed Systems in 1996. He developed a paper-feed device and secured a patent.

A competitor sued for patent infringement and won a $1.5-million judgment, which thanks to Werner’s and his team’s dedication was overturned on appeal.

The FlowMaster was developed during the lawsuit process.

"What had happened with me in the lawsuit was nothing short of corporate warfare, how to get rid of the competition through the legal system instead of the marketplace, and most of the time that works," he said. That court case is really what was a turning point in his career. And what is more important it was a really valuable life lesson.

Car Collection

Having a passion for speed and memories from childhood, Todd started collecting classic racing cars and now he owns a huge collection of fancy crazy-fast cars from legends like Richard Petty. At some point in his time collecting, it occurred to Todd Werner that there was a reason the cars he was amassing had become so popular, to begin with, and that reason was their race-car counterparts, specifically those that actually took to the racetracks with the precise goal of propelling their respective makes and models not only to the finish line but also into the limelight. Werner’s motto and attitude towards his collection could be described as “Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday” and he always wanted to own the “winning cars”.

Todd’s collection could be found in multiple exhibitions and shows one of which was the auction by MECUM.com.

The most famous car in his collection is original 1970 Richard Petty Superbird (number 43). When Werner purchased this car, Petty himself came to see Todd and confirm the fact that the car is the one.

Statement Marine

In April of 2007, Werner together with Nick Buis started a boat building company that designs and creates luxury boats. Ride quality is a big deal for Werner, who drove the cat and also holds an American Power Boat Association Super Cat world title that he earned in ProMarine with Tomlinson on the throttles. In fact, you could argue that ride quality is the biggest deal for Werner. That’s why the new Statement cat is, like its V-bottom sibling, equipped with an air-cushioned cockpit. The company is still successfully running and lets people enjoy luxurious build quality and speed at the same time.

Boat Racing Championship

Werner grew up spending most of his time on the water. As he grew up, the interest remained the same, except boats, were getting bigger and faster. Todd has turned his interest into a time-consuming hobby. He became a member of the America Power Boat Association. Werner, the team owner and driver of boats like Flow Master and others started racing in 1993.

Todd earned 2 world championships in Flow Master with Mike Anderson on the supercat light outboard. Then he earned a world championship in ProMarine in supercat class. And became a world champion in Nichols with Billy Moore on the throttles.

Todd Werner was a world champion a total of 4 times.
